Item Upgrade: A Simple Definition

Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

Item upgrade, commonly referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment increases a stat linearly.

Players can recycle six items at once to get a gauge of each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling an item increases with its rarity and level.

Upgrade components

An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the effectiveness of your weapons and armor. This can be achieved in a variety of ways, including by using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity or mark level. Additionally,  item upgrades  can be reforged, which can boost their stats even more.

Upgradeable items are available all over the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The primary method to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components, which are components that can be slotted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots that can be upgraded, and many require a certain amount of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer general bonuses.

There are several types of upgrade elements in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments, can be placed in any equipment type and offer less bonuses than those that are equipment type specific. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools, and provide various benefits, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to providing additional crafting materials.

To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen. It will display the expected statistics after the upgrade. The Upgrade button at the bottom will be labeled as Blocked if you do not have enough of either.

The number of upgrade components required for a given item can be seen in the upper-right corner of the Upgrade window. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the upgrade level and rarity, but can be reduced through many different methods, including purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them to other players.

The majority of weapons can be upgraded by adding a prefix, such as a rune, or an insignia, and others can be upgraded with the suffix. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the name of the item for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".

Glyphs

Glyphs are an effective tool for communicating visual information. They move to grab the viewer's eye and spark curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, making them more effective in communicating a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs can also increase the likelihood of remembering messages by creating an emotional connection in the brain.

Each glyph increases a stat's value by a certain amount. This is shown on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is not the exact amount at which the glyph will increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount by which it can increase a stat. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier as well as the quality of the item that you are admiring.

Most upgrade components slotted into items are not able to be repaired or replaced without dismantling the gear in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have a non-useful rune or glyph that hasn't yet been added to your gear, you can move it to another piece of equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you are looking to remove a glyph from an item, you will need to salvage it with a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed in which it is installed, but you can recover the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards, therefore, it shouldn't be considered as a loss.

A glyph added to an item can cause it to be unstable, and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you take it down. You can also add an inscription on your equipment to provide an additional benefit. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and then be dealt out slowly to the wearer instead of all at one time. This is beneficial for players who are taking a lot of damage from their enemies, but do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens allow players to change the affixes of their weapons and equipment, and they can be obtained in various ways like mistery boxes or as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Every reroll grants the player an affix randomly chosen and typically better than what they had before. Reroll tokens can be used to boost weapon stats to cause more damage or bonuses.

Rerolled items are not listed in the menu of upgrade options, but they can be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be selected to recycle. Recycling an item adds a small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is determined by the item's rarity as well as its own level, so items with higher levels are more useful to recycle than lower-level ones.

Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll weapons to upgrade units. Rerolls roll the  percentage chance of a weapon trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon will be upgraded, and if it is lower, the weapon remains the same. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.

A reroll is a good option for upgrading an item, however, players must be aware that it will lower the overall ilvl of the weapon due to the number of rerolls required to increase the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This effect of lowering is most effective on ring items and Diadems, which have no other options for raising ilvls.

Some players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It would be fairer to allow players to pay for it using money or food items that allows players to make adjustments to their builds without having to spend excessive amounts of time. However the paid rerolls aren't something that the developers would like to incorporate at this point in the game's development. They plan to add a potion that will allow players to alter their race in the future.

Leveling

There are a number of ways to boost the value of an upgrade to an item. The first way to level up an upgrade for an item is by increasing the upgrade amount. This boosts the value of an upgrade for any stat. The second option is to increase the effect of the upgrade, which can increase the damage or healing of the stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. The upgraded item will maintain its iLevel but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.

When upgrading items, it is important to keep in mind that upgrades are random. In the majority of cases the best roll will be derived from glyphs, however there are also possibilities for more or unique rolls. Additionally the iLevel of an upgrade will be determined by the item type which means that when you upgrade a unique or rare item to an exceptional item type you could gain an increased iLevel.

The cost of upgrading items can be expensive, particularly when you're upgrading a piece of equipment from the standard to legendary track. The price will depend on the item's iLevel base and the amount of upgrade levels it has. Some upgrade tracks also require crests in order to get to the next level.

If you're lucky, your upgraded item will reach the highest level on its upgrade track and unlock an additional benefit. This will increase the item's upgrade value. The bonus effect will vary with each upgrade level, however. In general, the upgrade effect is increased a value of +3.

The iLevel also changes in accordance with the item's upgrade path and base level. For  item upgrades  that has been upgraded from being a scarce or exclusive item to an extraordinary one can be expected to gain the Enhanced Defence of the new base item.
